Finding the right book on ADHD can be overwhelming. There’s a lot of information out there, but which books are actually worth your time?
I’ve put together a list of the best books for ADHD I recommend to my clients – covering everything from self-understanding to productivity and daily life strategies. These books won’t shame you for struggling – they will help you work with your ADHD brain, not against it.
📖 1. The Mini ADHD Coach – Alice Gendron

Best for: Feeling understood & validated
This book is like a supportive ADHD friend in book form. Packed with relatable insights, funny doodles, and bite-sized explanations, it’s perfect for those who get bored with dense texts. Rather than overwhelming you with advice, it offers encouragement through real ADHD struggles and small, doable steps.
📖 2. A Radical Guide for Women with ADHD – Sari Solden & Michelle Frank

Best for: Women with ADHD struggling with self-doubt, exhaustion, and feeling “not enough”
ADHD in women is often overlooked, masked, and misunderstood. This book explores how it manifests differently, how masking leads to burnout, and how to stop people-pleasing. Instead of focusing on fixing yourself, it guides you toward self-acceptance and building life strategies that actually work.
📖 3. How to Keep House While Drowning – KC Davis

Best for: ADHDers who feel overloaded with daily tasks
My personal #1! 😃 This book isn’t about having a spotless home – it’s about shifting your mindset around care tasks. If keeping up with housework, or routine chores feels exhausting, KC Davis offers a compassionate, shame-free approach.
She helps you create routines that support you rather than drain you, proving that having difficulty with these tasks doesn’t mean you’re lazy or failing – it just means you need a system designed for the way your ADHD brain functions.
📖 4. Essentialism – Greg McKeown

Best for: ADHDers who say yes to everything & are drowning in new ideas
Not ADHD-specific, but super helpful. This book shows you how to focus on what really matters, say no without feeling bad, and stop taking on too much. If you often feel stuck with too many choices or don’t know what to do first, this book helps you cut the noise and get things done.
📖 5. Driven to Distraction – Edward Hallowell & John Ratey

Best for: Understanding ADHD & learning science-backed strategies
This classic book offers an in-depth look at ADHD, its symptoms, and strategies for managing it. It’s a must-read for anyone looking to fully understand ADHD and how it affects day-to-day life. The guide also provides insight into how ADHD can impact relationships and career paths.
